A Legacy That Echoes Far and Wide

Every once in a while, someone enters our lives and leaves such a profound mark that their influence continues to ripple long after the moment has passed. This week, we witnessed one of those moments. After sharing my personal message to Dr. Bob Sanet, this blog received more than 300% more views than ever before. That number alone speaks volumes about the depth of Dr. Sanet’s reach, the strength of his legacy, and the outpouring of love that has surrounded him and Linda since his announcement. In other words, over 13 years and almost 600 posts, An Open Letter to Dr. Bob Sanet is hands down the number one all time read post for VT Works. Considering the love, gratitude, and deep respect I have for the Sanet’s, I think that is pretty cool.

We’ve always known Dr. Sanet as a visionary teacher, a compassionate clinician, and a relentless advocate for his patients and colleagues. But what this response reminded me of is that his influence stretches far beyond the classroom, the exam room, or even the profession. Dr. Sanet has shaped lives. He’s inspired generations. And he’s done it all with a heart so full of generosity, wisdom, and humor that people can’t help but be drawn to him.

What touched me most this week was the memories you all shared on social media about Dr. Sanet’s mentorship, his leadership, his fierce belief in potential, and the quiet moments of kindness that so many of you still carry with you. These weren’t grand gestures; they were everyday reminders of how deeply he cared. That care is clearly being returned in full force.

At the end of Dr. Sanet’s message, he asked us to “remain in frequent contact with Linda. She will need a lot of ongoing comfort, love, and support.” We view this not only as a beautiful expression of his love, but as a heartfelt call to action. A stark reminder that community doesn’t end in crisis, it begins again with intention. And just as Dr. Sanet has been there for so many of us, we now have the chance to be there for both he and Linda.

With that in mind…

To everyone who reached out to me following the Open Letter to Dr. Bob Sanet, thank you. Your kind words and compliments on my writing style have been deeply felt. But if I may, I’d like to gently redirect your kindness and compassion toward Bob and Linda. Channel your warmth, your hope, your prayers, your stories, and your strength in their direction. Let them feel the same love and support they have so generously given to all of us. For as long as I have known them, they have always been the ones lifting others up.

Now it’s our turn to lift them.

  • Dear friend Robert,
    Thank you.
Bob and I have been truly overwhelmed and humbled by the responses and outreach we have received. Bob wanted to plant some seeds. I have come to see that he planted a forest.
