Leaping Into Technology – Part Three
I certainly hope everyone is managing well with this sudden and rapid transition into distance therapy and social distancing. I follow many of you on social media and have been reading the words of heartbreak as offices are closing for weeks at a time. We all certainly feel your pain. Surely, we will be back, stronger than ever.
As we all walk through this together, please feel free to send your ideas via (rnurisio@gmail.com) and I will include them in subsequent posts for the benefit of the entire community.
OEPF is hosting a conference call via Zoom to discuss what is working and what is not. All offices are welcome to join. Here’s the info:
- Distance Vision Therapy!!! How are you dealing with it in your offices? What is working and what is not working? The Optometric Extension Program Foundation is hosting a Zoom discussion to come together and share ideas as a community. Please click on the link below or call in for the discussion on Friday, March 20th—8am PST, 11am EST in the US.
- The folks at NuSquared sent me this message this morning: While we are all trying to figure out the next steps, Nu Squared wants to help out by offering free new accounts for our VT EMR so offices can have remote access their patient charts. Visit our website for more information: http://www.nusquared.com
- One reminder that came up yesterday with a few offices I was in touch with that we want to pass along. Remember to disable you auto-reminders for appointments! Some offices use their EMR and some use a third-party service (i.e Smile Reminders) to send their patients text messages or emails to confirm appointments. If your office is closed down for a period of time, help to eliminate confusion for your patients by disabling the reminders until things get back to normal.
Again, I am happy to send new information or ideas out as much as possible. Please send anything you’d like to share to my email and it will be included in subsequent posts.

Robert, thanks for continuing to check in with everyone and pass along information. This morning, I attended an online yoga class with a teacher that I used to practice with 3 hours away. I didn’t expect how uplifting it would be to see, hear, and do something with people that I missed…..and I would expect that all of you practicing telemedicine are serving that purpose for your patients; an anchor in a chaotic world. Our patients need an anchor right now just as much as they need their VT. Thanks to all for soldiering on!
